02.01.2010 New Leaders Council (NLC) (www.NewLeadersCouncil.org) is proud to announce the acceptance of over 200 talented Fellows to 11 leadership institutes across the nation. These top emerging leaders will participate in a rigorous five-month training program focusing on entrepreneurship, public speaking, communications, campaign work, advocacy, building an organization, and leadership training to mold of what NLC has termed progressive "political entrepreneurs."

This year NLC doubled its presence across the United States and is honored to present the 2010 Fellows who will take part in NLC Institutes in Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Missoula*, New York City, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.

"NLC's Fellows represent the diversity of the progressive movement and the values of Americans. They are deeply committed to positive social change and will undoubtedly leave a mark on their community, NLC Executive Director, Adam Borelli said. Founding national nonprofits, creating change in corporations, using arts for advocacy, effective community organizing, and a commitment to good government, the 2010 Class will catalyze the change we need to see in the United States."

NLC has been working for over five years to expand it's leadership training by recruiting emerging leaders from outside of the traditional power structures, engaging them on both local and national levels, and equipping them to be civic leaders - not only for elective office, but also in their communities and work places. NLC has seen 100% chapter growth each year for the last three years and plans to continue expanding its programs in 2011.

It is well known that the conservative movement has been building political leadership programs and infrastructure for years. Now it is time for the progressive community to fill the bench of future leadership. NLC is leading the way as a grassroots, long-term, innovative, progressive leadership program that will create positive social change in the years to come. By using a starfish model of expansion and leveraging the energy and talent of the millennial generation, NLC is quickly gaining traction on conservative advances that started back in the 1960s.

The main objective of NLC is the Institute program, which is comprised of eight days of training over a five-month period to learn cutting-edge entrepreneurship, leadership, and political management skills from over 200 industry-leading faculty. Upon graduation, Fellows are paired with career mentors, join a national alumni network, and agree to fundraise to support the next class of Fellows.

Once the 2010 class graduates, NLC will have an alumni network of about 350 former Fellows in addition hundreds of advisory board volunteers around the country. It is the goal of the organization that this growing corps of diverse and highly-skilled new progressive leaders will rise to the top of their fields by working together across sectors and in their local cities to build, expand, and improve the progressive infrastructure necessary for strong democracy, social justice, and equal opportunity.
